We spoke to our incredible new hockey signing, Emily Purvis, for an interview. Her answers emily purviswere so amazing to us, that we simply had to include everything she said! Check out part one of our chat:

What do you love about hockey?

Well, around eight years ago, I picked up my first hockey stick. I’m left-hand dominant, so I’ll always remember the look on the under 11’s faces when I asked for a left handed stick! When I finally got used to the backward style of a right handed stick, I just remember feeling so comfortable playing the sport. I’ve played all kinds of sport all my life, but never loved it so much to continue it for as long as I have with hockey.

I started off as a wing, making my way around the forward line. It was fun to get some goals, but I never felt like they were for me. Then in under 13’s, my coach decided to try me in fullback, and from that point, I was in my element. I’ve been there ever since, however playing all other positions when my coach needed me. My journey with hockey has been fun, wild, exciting and crazy. Winter is definitely my favourite season and Saturdays are my favourite days. Even if we lose a game, I am still cheering loudly and staying positive. It has allowed me to develop so many skills, on and off the field. I would never give up playing hockey, it just makes me happier than I have ever been.

How are you feeling at this moment having just signed with NSR?

Speechless. Truly, truly speechless. I never knew that hockey would take me anywhere in life besides just playing for my amazing club, the Gawler Strikers. When I received my letter, I was excited at the thought but wasn’t entirely sure if I could do it. I decided to go along, the chance to develop my skills being a major drive on the day. The day was so much fun, and I was just happy that I went along. Then I received an email saying I was successful through that process, and I remember squealing on the train, everyone looked at me funny, it was so embarrassing.

Even at that point, I wasn’t sure if this was real! Then I went to my interview, and thought it went pretty well, but having to wait a week for my email was torture! Then I got an email, and I actually cried! Everything happened so fast, but I wouldn’t change it at all! Right now, I feel on top of the world! I seriously cannot thank NSR enough for this opportunity, it really does mean everything to me!

What an amazing writer, huh?! Stay tuned for part two of our chat with this talented lady!
