Kyah Simon: Blog Entry #5

Hey Everyone,

Happy Easter to all, isn’t April a busy month for celebration. We’ve also got ANZAC to celebrate where we remember those that have fallen in fighting for our country. In a footballing sense we (The Matildas) had a great result in our friendly matches against Brazil this month. Unfortunately lost the first game, only JUST by 1-0. Three days later we hit back with a solid performance of 2-1, which is an amazing result against a powerhouse like Brazil.

The last time The Matildas won against Brazil was back in 2008, it was my first ever senior goal at the Peace Queen Cup in South Korea. We won the game 1-0 and I scored it in the 3rd minute of injury time (93rd min), it’s definitely a memory so fond of mine and I remember every single moment and move leading up to when the ball hit the back of the net. The feelings like that are what I miss the most by being on the side line, the feeling of winning and unfortunately losing, that feeling of scoring the winning goal, and celebrating with your teammates, those feelings are what you sometimes take for granted, even that feeling of putting that green and gold on which some people will never experience, it’s something that words can’t explain until you actually live it.

Those moments are what keep me passionate, making my family and friends proud and representing our country at something I love, it’s indescribable and I’m itching at the seams to get back involved.

I’m at the 6th month mark now and like I said last time I was hoping to start running shortly. Unfortunately I had a MRI and it showed an irritation under my kneecap, which has set me back with my running. I’ve since given it extra care by taping it every day for support and easing off my strengthening exercises, if it still persists then the plan is a cortisone injection which will most definitely heal it from the inside out, thank goodness! I’m hoping next time I’m writing to you guys, that I can proudly say I’ve started my running J.

On another note our recently appointed coach has since been relieved of her duties, this came to a bit of a shock for me but there’s been reasoning to be that this was in the best interest of the playing group. Alen Stajcic who is a coach that has had a major influence on my career, saw the potential in me back when I was 15 with offering me a NSWIS scholarship has now been appointed as the fill in coach to take the girls through their Asian Cup (World Cup qualifiers) next month in May, the appointment of the new coach will be determined and reviewed after that tour. Staj is a great coach and I have not a doubt in my mind he will move the squad in a positive and successful direction whilst being in charge.

Stay tuned for the girls success in the coming month at the Asian Cup, I’m sure they would appreciate your support and it shall be a great lead onto the Men’s WC campaign in Brazil J
