We are extremely thrilled to announce that we’ve just recruited and signed top Victorian basketballer, Lana Hollingsworth (VIC) to NSR Australia!
Amongst all of this excitement, we got the opportunity to lock Lana and her father, Eric, who is the former Australia Athletics Coach, in for an exclusive interview to learn more about this superstar and her ambitions for the USA.
Currently at Haileybury in Year 9, Lana is a very dedicated student athlete with her sights set out for college ball in the US. Whilst she prepares for her expedition across the world, Lana keeps busy on the court for a few teams here in Australia: her high school team, along with the Sandringham Sabres. If that ddoesn’tsound like a full on schedule as is, this sensation was also selected as one of the top players of the state and now trains with the NPP (National Performance Program) for the ‘East Coast Challenge’ in Sydney. Lana is also planning on travelling to the US for the first time with her high school team to tour San Francisco, LA and Las Vegas and they will of course be planning on hitting up a NBA game once there.
During our interview, it was clear that Lana’s got a lot going for her and is already an outstanding recruit at such a young age. In the midst of all this excitement, Lana is one of the most down to earth gals and recognizes that it takes hard work to reach your goals. A few things she plans on improving and concentrating on before her departure in 2018 is her dribbling, defensive footwork and fitness. You’ve got plenty of time Lana, and at the rate you’re going – there is no doubt in our mind that you will be in tip top shape come recruitment season for the US!
Lana envisions her college experience to be one that she will never forget, as she wishes to compete in the highest league that she can. She also stressed her excitement in receiving a degree abroad in either law, since she considers herself to be a great arguer, or sports medicine, to follow the footsteps of her mother.
In conclusion of our interview, Lana and her father, both shared why they chose NSR Australia to represent Lana:
NSR Australia has a great network in the states and there’s a trust element in knowing the Director, Marco. It’s also great how NSR promotes Aussie athletes and places them into colleges in the US.
We have high hopes for this amazing athlete and there is no doubt that she will begin to attract the attention of US college coaches during her time here at NSR. Keep an eye out on this girl everyone; we have a funny feeling she’ll be doing big things!
