What’s Route 66?!

  • US route 66 is also known as: US 66, Route 66, Will Rogers Highway, Mother Road or Main Street of America
  • It was one of the original highways within the U.S Highway System
  • The highway, which became one of the most famous roads in America, originally ran from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before ending at Santa Monica, California, covering a total of 2,448 miles (3,940 km).

Sights to see on Route 66:

The Western American Landscape:

The Western American landscape will offer some of the most beautiful sights of the US. Arguably the most beautiful part of the highway is in Arizona, where it passes near the Painted Desert, the Petrified Forest and the Grand Canyon.

Grant Park: 

Route 66 officially starts at the edge of Grant Park, Chicago. This quintessential US city sits on Lake Michigan, and is the site of iconic music festival Lollapalooza and Barack Obama’s 2008 election acceptance speech!

Take a dip in the deepest water hole in the world, the Blue Hole in Santa Rosa, New Mexico! This natural sink hole is one of many nearby, and is also known as an inverted cave.

Santa Monica Pier:

Last but not least! Santa Monica Pier in California officially marks the end of Route 66. Take a stroll down the iconic boardwalk along the Pacific Ocean.
