This school’s program is number one in four different categories and is known as the ‘Home of Champions’. It more than lives up to this name as is shown through its illustrious athlete alumni list. What are some these records?

They are number one in the total number National Championships won (124), they are also number one in Total Women’s NCAA Championships won (44) and total Individual NCAA Championships (448). What is more incredible is that this university’s athletic program has 94 team championships since 1980 and the last time it went without any National Team Championship in any sport was in 1977 making it number one in the number of consecutive years with a National Team Championship (38).

This however is just at college level. What about the Olympics? Since the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, the university’s alumni have accumulated 143 medals in total, 71 gold medals, 46 silver medals and 26 bronze medals. At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, 47 alumni from the university participated with 32 competing for the United States, 14 competing for other countries and one coaching. They were represented by more athletes than any other university and won 25 medals. At the 2012 London Olympic Games there was once again strong representation winning 16 medals in total with 39 athletes, 26 representing the United States and 13 athletes representing other countries.

The university was founded in 1885 and competes in Division I in the Pacific-12 conference. They have 14 men’s teams, 15 women’s teams and one coed team. The men’s sports include; baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, gymnastics, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field (indoor), track and field (outdoor), volleyball, water polo and wrestling. The women’s sports include; basketball, cross country, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, sand volleyball, soccer, softball, squash, swimming and diving, track and field (indoor), track and field (outdoor) and volleyball. The coed sport is fencing.

Some of their exclusive and decorated alumni include; Tiger Woods, Michelle Wie, Amy Chow, Kerri Strug, Elle Logan, Kent Mitchell, Nicole Barnhart, Rachel Beuhler, Simon Elliot, Julie Foudy, Ryan Nelson, Kelley O’ Hara, Jason Dunford, Catherine Fox, The Bryan Brothers, John McEnroe and Australia’s very own athletic Olympian Steve Solomon who competed in the green and gold in the 2012 London Olympic Games.
