Soccer talent from NZ, Cameron King, has become acutely motivated to reach his dreams since signing with NSR. We got to know this burgeoning football star, here:
HOW HAS YOUR LIFE CHANGED SINCE SIGNING WITH NSR?
It has given me an incentive to work harder, both at school and on the field. I really want to get good marks in all my classes so as to better my chances of getting into a good school, and receiving the best possible scholarship.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO GET OUT OF THIS WHOLE EXPERIENCE?
Being able to achieve my academic goals through a good school, and being able to do so, through the sport I love. It will be great meeting new people, and experiencing life in America, and being an ambassador for New Zealand.
WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT LIVING IN THE USA?
Getting to experience a different culture and living life through sport.
The way sport is over there, is on a whole other level. Especially compared to New Zealand. I’m really looking forward to not only the soccer, but also experiencing the thrill of attending other sports like American Football and Baseball.
WHAT ARE YOUR DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS?
I am planning on studying Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture as I love the boating industry. I hope that one day I can be the proud owner of a super yacht that I have been able to build myself. As far as my sport goes, I would love the opportunity to play at a Div 1 school, with the possibility of it leading to a club or international career.
WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST SPORTING AND PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR?
I am very proud of the fact that I have been playing in the Under 19s since I was 15 yrs old. It has been a great challenge for me, and I am very fortunate to have the support of a great coach to help me develop.
It was also pretty cool this year when I won the Father & Son Golf Tournament with my Dad. On a personal level, I think the fact that I have such a great group of friends is an accomplishment. We have a lot of fun in the summer playing futsal, with a lot of laughs and good times. We love going to big games to cheer on our national team – The All Whites, and regional team – The Phoenix. We support and encourage each other and I know they will continue to do so, even when I’m on the other side of the world.
