Six titles in eight years with a seven-three record in NCAA Championships games. The Penn State Nittany Lions are the best women’s volleyball team ever and currently have surpassed Stanford University’s record of six championships.
Stanford University are close behind with six national championships having won all of them in the space of 10 years. This is a program that challenges for the national championship game every year. They are so strong that they have played in 14 championship games in 34 years.
These are the top two programs but they are not the only programs to have dug deep and come a away with a national championship. The University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) have won four national championships. The are followed closely by the University of Hawaii, Long Beach State University, the University of Nebraska and the University of Southern California (USC) who have all won three national championships. The University of the Pacific and the University of Texas have won two national championships and the University of Washington have won one title.
It is a sport that has seen a lot of success come out of California based schools having won 18 of 34 titles. The Penn State Nittany Lions are the only team to have won four consecutive titles between 2007-2010. Volleyball has one of the strongest and steadiest growth rates among female athletes and colleges are always looking for international talent to expand their rosters.
