Look at the situation logically:
- Airplanes are a very safe mode of transportation
- Take a look at the big picture, and realise that you’re in safe hands, and you need to go through this experience to get to an incredible one… you’ll soon be in a new country!
- If you hear or see something that confuses you, ask the flight attendant for an explanation. If you hear the technological explanation, you can look at the situation logically.
- Try and think about how fun your destination will be
- Think positive
- Write a list about what scares you about flying. Go through the list and ask yourself ‘why?’ this bothers you.
Make yourself as comfortable in your seat as you can:
- Close your window if looking down from big heights makes you uncomfortable
- Wear a hat! It’s been proven that wearing a cosy hat can help towards mental insecurity, promoting ease
- Bring a memento of something that makes you happy – perhaps this is a book, your iPod, photos of loved ones?
- Take a few sips of water
- Do small feet or leg exercise in the seat to distract you, and get your blood flowing.
- Invest in a comfortable travel pillow
We hope this list puts your flight jitters to ease!
