We aren’t surprised that The University of Georgia’s mascot, English-bulldog UGA was voted the most lovable college mascot by the NCAA! Read more about the history of UGA’s here:
UGA IX is the current mascot for The University of Georgia, owned by Charles Seiler.
The Uga mascot line started in 1956 when Seiler brought a bulldog that was given to him as a wedding present to Georgia’s first home game of the season. Afterwards, head coach Wally Butts asked his permission to use the dog as Georgia’s mascot.
Since then, every Uga has been owned by and lived with the Seiler family in Savannah, Georgia.
To date, there have been eight dogs that have held the name Uga derivation of the school’s familiar acronym UGA.
Each English-Bulldog has its own personality, and pre-game tradition.
The UGA lineage is the most celebrated college mascot within the NCAA.
Frank W. “Sonny” Seiler has owned the Uga lineage since 1956 taking each dog to every game from his home in Savannah.
Uga V, was the only college mascot to land on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
Traditionally, the current Uga is present at every Georgia Bulldogs home football game, many away games, and other University-related functions and sports events, and usually wears a spiked collar and red jersey with varsity letter.
