Do you believe you are reaching your full potential? Are you taking advantage of your strongest attributes?
Fact is, many of us just want to get things out of the way and end up looking back at those times and wishing we did more.
Today, we spoke with talented NSR soccer athlete, Connaire Burns (SA) to chat about his strongest attributes and what he believes makes him stand out of the crowd. At first, Connaire got us lost talking about our beloved TV shows, but who wouldn’t when you watch “Game of Thrones” and “The Walking Dead”?
Back on topic, Connaire mentioned that talking about his strengths was such a good feeling as sadly, our society shuns those who talk of their strengths as they can’t differentiate between that and bragging.
What are two characteristics that can be related to your sport that make you different from other student athletes?
- I used to play volleyball and my previous coach said that there was one characteristic that he both loved and hated about me; I was never satisfied in my abilities, even after I’d get a point, I would still ask how I could do better. I have always just wanted to be the perfect athlete and to know as much as I can. I always try to imagine possible situations and try to predetermine how they would happen and how I could ultimately achieve the best outcome.
- I am highly self motivated and I think this is because I am extremely competitive. I would say I have ‘White Line Fever’; as soon as you cross that white line, you are game ready and nothing is going to stop you in achieving your best. I love having my coach and team, so don’t get me wrong when I say, I don’t feel as if I need them to pep me up for a game. I believe this is because I feel quite confident in my own abilities. When I last played a grand final for instance, my team was very nervous of how they thought the game was going to play out, whereas I somehow stayed fairly calm and I felt ready to do what I do best.
