When coaches are recruiting players from overseas, video footage is the biggest and most powerful tool when it comes to spotting talent. Coaches don’t want to sit and watch hours of footage but would much rather see a 3-5 minute clip of a player showing their skills on and off the ball, movement, stance, approach and swing, and level of competition. Some coaches will request running footage so they can watch a player in a 10 minute interval and see how they conduct themselves throughout the play but in 99% of cases, coaches want to see shorter clips.
The biggest tip for better quality video footage is using a tripod. By using a tripod it keeps the camera steady and allows a smooth movement as the ball moves up and down the field. By having that smooth movement it is easier for coaches to follow the play and keep their eye on the player rather than having to try and re focus on shaky footage.
If you are able to get footage from a few different games against different opponents, it allows coaches to see more of a variety of your skills and how you perform consistently against different opposition.
Put yourself in the coaches’ shoes and think that if you were running a team, what would you want to see from potential athletes?
