Congratulations to soccer star Nick Higgins (FNSW) who has been successfully placed at Calumet College of St. Joseph! NSR checks in with him as he prepares for his departure to the US this August.
Nick has been partaking in the sport for an amazing 10 years after being inspired by his school friends to move beyond Auskick to the world of soccer. Currently Nick trains with his soccer team on Tuesdays and Thursdays, he also practices solo on Friday and also partakes in additional physical training at least twice a week. Maintaining peek physical form will ensure that he fits well into his US soccer team at Calumet!
Recently, Nick has undergone the visa application process and goes on to explain the importance of organisation prior to the interview. Nick explains that he was organised well in advance prior to the interview. He goes on to explain that the process was not as taxing as first thought “…it was really only a day’s work…I caught the train up to the consulate in Melbourne which was about 3 hours away…everyone at the consulate was very helpful…”
For those athletes looking to go through the visa interview at the consulate, Nick advises to “make sure that you get on top of everything as soon as you can and don’t leave things to the last minute. Make sure that you have all of your documents sorted and that your appointment times are correct so that you arrive on time, not too early and not too late” Organisation was a key factor in Nick’s successful and easy application for the US Visa. Ensuring that all interview requirements were covered allowed the US embassy to efficiently approve his documents.
In an effort to organise his trip to the US, Nick is talking to his head coach at Calumet who is a great source of information for common questions regarding college queries. Coach Olsen has organised living arrangements for Nick, placing him in accommodation with fellow soccer players, this ensures that he is quickly integrated into the team. Having regular contact with the coach is essential to ensure that you are on top of all college paperwork requirements!
NSR wishes Nick the best of luck as he prepares for his departure to the US in just under 2 months. We look forward to catching up with Nick in December!!
