After only four months of playing at Calumet College of St. Joseph, Mitchell Osmond (NSW) was offered an incredible offer to join the Thunderbay Chill Team who compete in the Premier Development League (PDL). Mitchell’s proud father, Grant, explains that coaching staff at Thunderbay were so impressed with Mitchell’s video, that they offered him a contract without a trial!

“He got placed over with the help of NSR, at Calumet, and he’s done really well there at the college…really, really well. In fact, they’ve come back to him already, before mid-season break, offering him a scholarship that’s never been offered to anyone else at the school,” says Grant.

Each college in America offers different types of budgets and potential scholarships they can offer students, and Grant believes Mitchell’s offer was due to his talent and determination.

“He put some interest out to play when college has finished for a three-month break. Most people just get on a plane and go home, but Mitchell’s there to make a soccer career. He put out some feelers early, to see if he could continue to play in that off-season,” he said.

Mitchell garnered “a lot of interest”, but one particular club was so interested in his video, that they called a board meeting of the coaching staff to view it. Hearing this, Grant explains that “was exciting enough in itself.”

“It turned out half way through the phone conversation, Mitchell turned around and realised that they weren’t offering a trial, they were going to send him a contract…to offer him a position to play!” he said.

Since recruiting Mitchell and starting the season, Thunderbay Chill has experienced great success.

“They just played in St Louis, so the first round happened this week. On Saturday they had a two-all draw, and on Sunday they won 2-1,” shares Grant.

“It’s been a great experience….he’s worked hard for it.”

This constantly rising star is definitely one to keep an eye on! Keep up the amazing progress, Mitchell!
