Hockey goal-keeping sensation, Brittanny Macnab (WA) didn’t realise how far she could take her hockey passion before trialing with NSR.
“Originally, I didn’t really know a lot about playing overseas and couldn’t see what the fuss was about. After trialing, that opinion changed dramatically, as I realised that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to study and play hockey overseas,” she admitted.
“The fact that I could play hockey at an elite level while pursuing a degree of my choice, I’d never heard of anything remotely close offered at home. I felt like I’d always have to sacrifice one or the other, either hockey or my studies, but with this I could have both and get the best out of my time overseas. To be honest, I don’t think I could’ve found a better solution.”
After officially joining the NSR team, Brittanny claims that it “didn’t feel real.”
“Without a doubt it’s been the biggest decision I’ve ever had to make, but now I’m really excited and looking forward to the opportunities I’ll have in the future playing and studying overseas. It’s served as a great motivator to do better in general training and games, as well as learning more about the field I’m going into, so I’m prepared,” she said.
Out of the entire experience, Brittanny can’t wait to experience both full-time hockey and studying, as well as meeting “a bunch of new people.”
Having access to an American education will also prove to be a plus for Brittanny, who wants to pursue paramedicine, which isn’t available until the age of 21 in Australia.
“The fact I can go straight into a paramedicine degree in America was a huge bonus, so I’m looking forward to that as well,” she said.
Sounds like you’re definitely on the right track, Brittanny! Good luck!
