NSR had a chat with inspirational young golfer, Laura Cummings (NSW), to discuss the importance of studying in preparation for her trip to the US. Motivated by the goal to attend a top US college on a scholarship is the driving force behind Laura’s dedication; not only to her training, but her academic studies.
In school, Laura partakes in English, biology and business management along with the achievement of her Certificate 4 in “Sports Career Orientated Participation” in 2014. Additionally, Laura currently studies a Certificate 3 in “Business and Personal Training” to maximise her chance of obtaining employment in the US. Studying a personal training course allows Laura to gain an in-depth grasp on how to maintain good physical health and well being on and off the golf course.
Laura went on to explain her training schedule of going to the gym at 6am 3 times a week, followed by golfing practice and additional study to end the day. Laura also holds down a part time job during her after school hours to grow her savings as she makes the trip overseas.
Dedication is the key trend that came through whilst talking to Laura. This is reflected in her advice to other kids looking to kids lacking motivation “…stick at it! Life isn’t easy, we don’t get things in life without working for them, work your way through your struggles. You have an amazing opportunity; this is your decision…”
Upon being asked about what Laura looks forward to the most about college life, she highly anticipates the idea of immersing herself into the American culture. In addition, she also looks forward to making new friends and training with the best of the best within the golfing world.
Until her trip to the US, you will find Laura at her favourite course, Wentworth Club, in Orange. Laura goes on to say how much she loves playing at the Wagga Wagga and Catalina Golf club in Bateman’s Bay.
