Hockey QLD superstar, Jemma Stubbs, has been playing hockey since the young age of six years old!
12 years later, Jemma can’t be kept away from the hockey field.
“I love all of the people that I play with. Every week when we play a game, it’s something different,” he said.
Her hockey journey took a turn when she received a letter in the mail, inviting her to trial for NSR Australia.
“When I got the letter, I was really shocked,” she recalled.
“I was interested, because it was such a big change, and something different. I think when I opened it up, I was so nervous and got all these feelings, that I said ‘I had to do it, I can’t not,’” she said.
After a successful trial and interview, Jemma shared that she was “SO excited” to get her journey underway.
The star mid-fielder shared that although she had been to the US before with family, she can’t wait to go on her own journey.
“I’ve been to America with my family before, but I think going there with NSR would be really different, and I’d see America in a different perspective,” she said.
Jemma shared that she hopes the journey will make her “more independent”, and “mature”.
She shared that already, the experience has changed her.
“I think I’ve become a lot more motivated to really learn more in hockey, and even to keep my fitness up,” she said.
The current first-year University student looks to continue her speech pathology degree over at a US college, as well as enjoying a social life.
Away from the classroom, Jemma shares that the experience she’s most looking forward to whilst living in the US, is to go to a College football game.
Wow, we are loving your enthusiasm, Jemma!
