casey hunterHockey superstar Casey Hunter (NSW) has been playing hockey for 14 years, a true seasoned champion of the game.

Casey’s parents wanted her to get involved in a team sport, so following her older sister’s cue, Casey started to play hockey, quickly becoming hooked.

“It’s just a good team sport. There’s a lot of people out there that play, so you always have different competitions, and different levels and all that, so. You’re always learning new stuff,” she said.

Casey was interested in the idea of furthering her sport and education by going overseas, after receiving a letter in the mail from NSR Australia.

“I got the letter from Hockey NSW offering me to trial, and I thought, ‘Wow, this is a once-in-a- lifetime opportunity.’ I really didn’t want to turn something like that down,” she shared.

“I thought it’d be a great opportunity to go see what the hockey is like on the other side of the world, and see their college system as well.”

Casey is currently studying a Bachelor of Podiatry Medicine, interested in continuing her education.

“I love it. It’s definitely the degree that I want to do, to continue onto and everything,” she said.

Casey made the thorough decision to finish off her current year of studies, before heading to the States to begin her NSR Australia journey.

“I thought I may as well finish this year at uni, because I’m halfway through it as it is. That means I’ll have extra credit for when I come back, and extra credit for when I go over,” she explained.

As well as continuing on her much-loved degree, Casey shares that she can’t wait to see some of the world.

“I’ve never left Australia,” she revealed.

“First time leaving Australia, and I’ll be living over there for a while!” she said.

In addition to making new friends and developing her hockey skills, the self-confessed foodie has her sights set on trying some all-American cuisine.

“I want to see what their food is like, because from what I’ve heard, their meals are massive! And I’m the type of person who loves food,” she revealed.

Ultimately, Casey can’t wait to develop in all areas of her life through this journey.

“I’m hoping to be able to come home and teach everyone all the things I’ve learnt, in terms of skills and training. I’m hoping to bring a lot of that back for teams when I’m back,” she said.

Well said, Casey! We know this adventure will live up to all of your expectations!
