NSR soccer athlete Elias Ayoub (NSW) is beyond excited for his move to the US, so much that he states, if he could, he would leave tomorrow. Today Elias shares his perception on what he believes he will expect from the US later this year. What makes his insight particularly interesting is that his main concerns and passion stems from a different tree.
Here are his thoughts:
My family and I have always been huge football fans and go crazy when it’s time for the world cup; we would get together and stay up all night watching most games. My brother once missed an exam and applied for special consideration with his excuse being the World Cup. I have been playing football since I was five and became more passionate as I got older as I saw how my Mum’s loved the sport and somehow this made me love it even more.
I have always admired Luís Figo, a retired Portuguese footballer. This athlete was so admirable for he played for the pure enjoyment and didn’t fixate on money like many of today’s footballers do.
Being a passionate footballer, choosing to accept my college offer was a must. I feel that this is something new I need to do in my life. I have so many friends at university that are booking their trips to Europe and America while with this opportunity I get to do more than travel; I get to experience the American life WHILE I study and get superior training. Dana, the prospect manager who also went to the states to do football explained that Australia doesn’t have the funds to provide decent sporting scholarships to many students. So I am so honoured to be able to excel in my field of sport.
I just can’t wait to get there; I would go tomorrow if I could. I want to meet my roommate and see what he’s like and if we’re similar. I want to meet my match and have already been looking up the competition on the internet trying to judge each character. I know my competition is going to be tough but I actually look forward to it, so I am training and preparing myself so I can be at my peak performance before I get there. As for the leaving home aspect, I’m not anxious, I’m actually really excited (laughs*).
I just really want to go as soon as I can because I can’t wait to know where I will be in the future. In say five years time, I want to still be playing football; hopefully a professional playing nationally or even to have graduated with a qualification in something in the medical industry. But going to the states just really gives me more options and I love that.
I would just like to personally add to the NSR team that I love you guys because you truly do put in the time and effort and you are helping students reach their potential while they can!
We love you too Elias you’re so unique and we know you’re going to smash this!
