Angus Phillips started playing soccer “as soon” as he could, during his first year of school, playing “every year” since.
The soccer pro, who currently plays for Tuggeranong United Football Club, loves being in a team environment.
“I think it’s cool to be part of a team. I like using my feet instead of my hands for a sport, because I’m terrible with my hands,” he explained.
Angus reveals that he thought about studying abroad at the end of Year 10, as a “dream”, but “never really knew” much about it, until receiving an invitation to trial with NSR.
“I thought it could be a real possibility for me,” he explained.
After a successful trial and interview period, Angus’ fate was sealed.
He revealed he had a “celebration” upon learning of his acceptance.
The ambitious teen has high-hopes for his abroad journey, with big plans for both his sporting and academic future.
“I’m hoping it sort of raises my profile in Australia as well as America. MLS would sort of be the big goal at the end of it, but also to be noticed by A-League clubs and other overseas places,” he explained.
Angus reveals that he wants to study medicine, a decision he’s “sure” about.
When asked if he’d be ready for that type of commitment to both areas of his passion, the young talent admits it will be a challenge.
“I think it’ll be a challenge, but that’s kind of what’s exciting,”
Away from the field and classroom, Angus is excited for the personal development he’ll experience whilst living abroad.
“I think it’ll give me more experience of what the world’s going to be like, and give me some time away from a familiar environment, to get to grow a bit,” he said.
WOW, who else is inspired by this ambitious superstar?! We know that we sure are!
