Drawing nearer to the end of his high school studies, Victorian basketballer Lachlyn Jayne’s 2017 US College adventure is suddenly not so far away.

Although the reality hasn’t quite sunk in, Lachlyn will start receiving offers and making contact with college coaches shortly in preparation for entering the US collegiate system in August 2017.

With a keen eye on colleges like Bryant University and having corresponded with the Washington Huskies, Lachlyn is excited by this opportunity and is anticipating the upcoming process eagerly.

“I’ve always loved basketball, when I was younger I’d always watch it. I know people around me that went to college and they said the experience was great so I chose to follow it and do it,” Lachlyn said.

The Victorian athlete plays for the Westernport Steelers as well as for a youth league and school basketball. He has also spent some time recently training with Basketball Australia. Lachlyn’s busy basketball schedule takes up six days of his week between training and games, and this mixed with extra year twelve study means he is already preparing for the demands of life as a student-athlete.

Lachlyn wants to make the most out his adventure and hopes to achieve a degree in the field of sports management while also challenging himself athletically.

“As a student I want to learn a lot over there and come home and be able to secure a full-time job. As an athlete I just want to do the best I can and see how far I can go,” he said.

Lachlyn has been lucky enough to have information resources around him in the form of past college students and contact with a college coach to help him explore the collegiate system.

This connection with past college students, as well as his family’s support, encouraged him to follow the US college pathway.

“I’ve caught up with people that went to college and they gave me some tips. They say the experience is worth it and they all changed as people having gone to college. It’s also pretty important to have people supporting you. My parents have encouraged me to go there and play basketball but they’ve also told me about my studies and what career I can make out of this experience,” Lachlyn noted.

The young basketball talent will continue to work hard to complete his year twelve studies and progress his athletic skills in the time leading up to his departure.

We wish Lachlyn all the best in his ambitions and look forward to catching up with him again during his US college placement process!
