It all started in Year 10 for Jake Curran when he received a letter in the mail from Football NNSW announcing that there was an upcoming trial to get scouted for USA college soccer. Excited and nervous, Jake decided to attend and see what NSR Australia was all about along with a few of his friends.
After Jake’s trial, it was a no-brainer. This athlete clearly had what it took to be successful in the USA and NSR Australia was not going to let this prospect go. Jake received his acceptance pack and soon signed on as a NSR prospect in late July of 2012.
Jake has now been a part of the NSR family for a few years and he expressed how happy he was to be a part of such a great program. It’s taken many years for Jake to reach this point, but all his hard work is finally paying off. Now that Jake is eligible for the 2015 intake, he is ready to receive his offers, “ I am very excited to start receiving offers and interested to find out what offers I may get.” From where? Whilst promotion has just begun, we do not know yet, but Jake is hoping somewhere in California, “California looks like a good place to live based off some of the research that I have done. The colleges there look great as well.”
To keep Jake busy while he patiently waits for his first offer to come through, he trains each week with his current team, the North Companions FC, who just finished first on the ladder this season. In addition, Jake practices for at least an hour a day as this dedicated athlete has built goal posts in his back yard to help with shooting practice.
As our interview concluded with Jake, he left other NSR athletes and prospects with some words of advice:
“NSR is a great opportunity and would be a great experience for anyone. If you’re nervous for a trial, go for it, you’ve got nothing to lose! It’s definitely worth it and if you get selected, it’s even better!”
It won’t be long until Jake attracts the attention of college coaches in the US, and we cannot wait to see what comes of his promotion. Stay tuned Australia, as this is an athlete to watch!
