Ashleigh Christensen started playing hockey five years ago for “fun”, but “fell in love” when she was introduced to the goalkeeper position.
“I love putting my suit on… and the feeling of being able to work on a team, and be proud when I can say that I saved a few goals in a game with my teams help,” she explained.
The young talent looks to a career goal of being able to play the game professionally, ultimately being a goalkeeper for the Hockeyroos.
As well as a professional sporting career, Ashleigh has academic aspirations, which she hopes to make come true through her U.S College pathway.
“I have another dream, and that is to be a lawyer… to help do my part in making the law fair for everyone,” she explained.
“I’m looking forward to college in the U.S. because…I’ll get to leave college with something other than sporting success,” she said.
The young superstar also can’t wait to experience travelling around the U.S, and meeting some “great people.”
Ashleigh shared that in five years’ time, she hopes to be finishing up her college course, and then move to Australia to work on getting involved in the Australian team.
“Out of the NSR program I hope to start the journey of my dreams…and I believe by playing college hockey it will help me succeed, because it’s at a higher level than what I’m playing [now].”
Wow, you’ve got it all planned out, Ashleigh! We can’t wait to see it all happen for you!
