The student VISA, that you will be after is called an F-1 Student Visa. An F-1 Student visa is issued to international students who are attending an academic program or English Language Program at a US college or university.
Here in Australia and New Zealand you will need to attend an interview at an American Consulate general which are located in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Auckland. If you don’t live in these cities and you are wanting to get a student visa to go to the US, then you will need to head to one of these cities. There is no way around it. Basically, you will book an appointment at one of the consulates, attend an interview that may last about half an hour, they take your passport, stamp it and send it back to you in the post.
Let’s map it out. Put things in order so everyone can understand it a little better. When does the visa process begin?
Before the visa application process can begin you need to have completed a school’s application process. Once you have completed the schools application process, you have supplied the school with everything they require and you have been accepted……….you still cant do it. So, once you have been accepted, the school will mail you what’s called an i-20. Once you have your i-20 then you can look at booking your VISA appointment.
To find out what documents you need to bring with you and how to actually book your appointment please listen to the podcast below. We teach you how to get it done.
What questions will you be asked in the interview?
Majority of the answers to the questions they ask will be on your i-20 document. Your college name, location, which sport you are competing in, what is your degree choice, are you on any financial aid package, how you are supported financially while over there, what is the coaches name, who is the person you have been in contact with at the institution??
Be prepared for these questions.
