Building your player profile is the most important component in helping to find you a compatible college in the US. NSR Australia has talented video editors who help to facilitate this process. In saying that, we do need consistent and accurate material from athletes and their parents/guardians in order to produce the best profile for each individual athlete.

It takes organisation, consistency and dedication to achieve success both in the classroom and on the field. These same traits need to be present in order to maximise your playing profile.

We have broken down the fundamental process into three simple steps FOOTAGE, ORGANISATION &YOUR PLAYING PROFILE.

In order for you to complete this process easily and effectively, we have broken our advice into a three part series for you to better understand this process.

Footage

NSR Australia receive hundreds of videos each year from clients. In order for us to successfully edit these videos we have given some advice on how to film, save and package your footage in the most appropriate way.

Filming distance

  1. In all footage we need to be able to distinguish features on the players face and also the playing number of your back if your video is soccer or basketball.
  2. You are too close if the top of the players head is touching the top of the screen and the bottom of their feet is touching the screen
  3. Footage is too far away when you can see the goal and the half way line in the same shot. Similarly, for basketball full court shots are too wide.

No training footage is allowed for any sports. Unless you are a Soccer Goal Keeper – in that case a maximum of 1 hour of one on one goal keeper training is appropriate!

Filming device

We advise that you put your camera on a tripod to stop cameras shaking and the footage not being able to be clearly watched.

Place the tripod in line with the player depending on the position of them on the field or court. Eg:  If the player is a defender, those filming would line the tripod up with the player’s position at the start of the game and go from there – changing positions at half time to other side of the court/field.

Amount of Footage needed to complete highlight reel

Year 12 students  – Need Four games of footage to complete a video, if you get subbed off, stop filming and restart the tape when you are back on the field/court.

We recommend filming as many games as possible and picking the best four games.  Always put your best foot forward!

If you are having trouble collecting game footage for any reason please contact NSR Australia ASAP.

Year 9,10,11– two new games each year is advised.

Stay tuned for part 2 and 3 of this series… outlining how to get organised and building your best NSR playing profile.
