For you soccer fans, it is a known fact that injury is just part of the game; however, it is the way you come back from it that matters!
During the beginning of his career, Simon Colosimo sustained a serious knee injury when colliding with an opposing player. The result was a number of weeks on the sidelines to ensure a full recovery. Simon tells of a recovery process that was physically “…pretty much by the book…” However, he goes on to highlight the mental struggle that one faces when being restricted to the sidelines. Initially feeling as though his career was over, it was the positive, never-give-in vibe from his brothers that allowed Simon to make a huge come back. Such a traumatic event so early in his career taught Simon to see the light in every situation and to never take anything for granted. Understanding how much the game meant to him became evident in his recovery process, motivating him to train harder to achieve his goal of making a great come back!
Simon goes on to advise injured athletes looking to make a recovery to “…surround yourself with positive people most importantly and that we have some wonderful specialists. The way medicine is going, you just have to apply yourself and stay motivated…”
