Terrie Handley is about to see off her two soccer playing sons, Jaryd and Aiden.
Terrie admits that ultimately, more than being nervous or emotional for her sons, she’s so happy her sons will be experiencing this adventure.
Continuing our interview, Terrie went on to explain what the NSR program will provide for her sons, academically.
Terrie explains that before getting accepted into Lake Tahoe Community College, her boys became determined to work hard for impressive school results.
“What they liked studying, they excelled in, and I think that’s the same as every kid. I think in the last 3 years in their schooling, they knuckled down. They knew they wanted to be teachers, so every subject to do with that, they excelled in,” she said.
Terrie explains she’s greatly appreciative for the American standards placed in colleges, where athletes can only perform given their grades are positive.
“I actually love the American system where they can’t play soccer if their school work is at a certain level,” she said.
“For the boys, they have a soccer ball at their feet 24/7 practically. For someone to tell them they can’t play, it would be a wakeup call. They know going over that if their grades aren’t good, they won’t play.”
Terrie is grateful that the NSR program is providing her sons for a way to pursue both their sporting and academic dreams.
“It’s a great opportunity and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone,” she admitted.
“For me, it’s just an opportunity for them to get out and do what they want to do. They have their dreams. It just gave them an opportunity to step outside their comfort zone and do whatever they want,” she said.
“Whether it’s to come home in 4 years, and teach at the local school, for me that’s fantastic anyway.”
It’s fantastic to hear your positive enthusiasm, Terrie! We wish your entire family the best of luck!
