When did you start playing your sport/ why do you love it so much?
My dad’s side of the family are all hockey orientated, so as soon as I was at the playing age I started playing in a Minkey Program when I was about five. I love playing hockey, because it provides me with a connection to my family, and my family’s culture. But what I love about it is the challenge it provides me and playing alongside my mates.
What’s your ultimate career goal? Is it to play professionally or do you have another dream
I would love to play professionally; I think everyone has aspirations to play at an elite level, but actually getting there would be so rewarding, knowing that all your hard work has paid off.
What are you looking forward to about going to college in the US?
I’m looking forward to playing new opposition, having new coaches, and the overall college life, because it is so different to Australia. But I’m more excited about the challenges ahead and putting myself out there.
In five years, where do you hope you are as a result of NSR?
Back in Australia, hopefully a better athlete and a better player, and hopefully working using my degree.
What do you hope to gain out of this program?
To grow up and mature a lot as a person. Being away from family and in a complete different country will do that. At the end of the day I hope it allows me to learn more about who I am as a person, and help’s shape my personal views, which can help me later in life.
Thank you for this major opportunity, I am so excited for the challenges up ahead.
The pleasure is all ours, Sarah! We can’t wait to see you do the very best with these awesome opportunities.
