The biggest mistake that athletes make is that they put so much effort into the athletic gains that they forget the academic component.  None of the athletic gains will mean anything when the season comes back around if you weren’t able to accumulate the right amount of credits from your coursework, and keep your GPA (grade point average) high enough to stay eligible for competition.  You should be spending greater or equal time in the books as you do in your physical training.  Treat it like a healthy diet, commit to doing the right thing with your training and studies 6 days a week, and give yourself one cheat day to go out and enjoy the social side of college.  However you decide to do it, MAKE GOOD CHOICES!

If you can commit to taking massive action on improving both academically and athletically in the offseason, the outcomes will be very positive and widespread.  You may find that with the improvement in your academics, you are able to earn more academic scholarship when the school year starts back up.  With your physical and athletic gains, you will solidify your commitment to your program, advance your position within your team, exemplify your position as a leader amongst your peers, gain confidence in your abilities, and set a precedent for yourself to aim to surpass each year you spend in college.

Commit to maximising your college experience in every way and I can assure you that you will set yourself apart from the norm.  Remember; don’t wait for a coach or a teacher to make you great.  Take massive action towards making yourself great!
