StateLibQld_1_194039_Shot_for_goal_during_a_soccer_match_in_Brisbane,_ca._1937For all of your soccer fans, we have a question for you- Where did soccer originate? Spain, Italy, England, possibly Germany? Well the answer is none of the above.

The game was initially believed to originate in China!! Dating back to around 2,200 years ago, the game was believed to have been played during the Han Dynasty.  Romans adopted a similar game to soccer called Harpastum; however, these games broke today’s golden rule of soccer which is to NEVER TOUCH THE BALL WITH YOUR HANDS. The Romans developed the concept of passing the ball between team mates idea, which later formed the basic ruling structure of the game.

Again, the game made an appearance in Medieval England where it was believed that offences such as kicking, biting and gouging were permitted. After King Edward III banned the ‘dirty play’ during the 14th century, the soccer game became a sport played only with one’s feet. Only during the 1950s has soccer been introduced to the US buy European immigrants living in New Orleans.

In today’s age, soccer is played in a almost all developed countries worldwide. Had it not been for a number of pioneering countries, we would not have the great sport that soccer is today!
