When did you first get involved in soccer?
I first started playing soccer when I was 5 years old in the Port Pirie Junior Soccer Association for the Crystal Brook u/8s team. I continued playing for the local town up until u/10s before I changed teams to play for an older grade.
Why did you get involved in NSR?
I received a letter in the mail in January 2014 inviting me to attend NSR’s trials and potentially make a name for myself and play college soccer over in the US. Like anybody else would be, I was excited to learn more and get involved. After a few attempts at asking my parents if I could attend trials, they gave in when I asked for it to be my birthday present. The day before my 17th birthday I attended the trails with some other teammates of mine and we had a blast in the full sized matches and 5v5 games. After that, one thing led to another and we soon had interviews and now we are being sent over to the United States to play our favorite sport, study internationally and live with the team. Why wouldn’t I get involved?
What are your hopes for this whole experience?
I hope to get as much as I can out of the experience I have been handed. I would love to travel as much as I can while I play for Century College and be a valued member of the team’s attacking structure. I am also really looking forward to living with the rest of the squad and studying what I enjoy.
What’s your ultimate career goal?
In soccer, I just want to make a name for myself. My goal is to be a recognisable face and have a distinctive style of play that is unique to me. Away from the pitch, I would like to do something along the lines of Environmental Science and create sustainable energy. An ideal career would be one where I am outside and constantly using my hands like many that are employed at the Bureau of Meteorology. I did my work experience there and really enjoyed my time learning about everything that they do for their career.
Why are you so keen to get started at Century College?
I am excited to begin at a new college and meet the team I’ll be playing and living with for the next few years. I also can’t wait to travel each week to the different colleges and have access to all the facilities.
What will you be studying at Century College?
I will be starting off doing a liberal arts degree and then hoping to get a degree in environmental science. I am still in the early stages of knowing what I want to do when I finish college but I’m sure once I get the ball rolling I’ll get more of an idea.
What a plan, Angus!
