Highly respected General Manager of Bankstown Basketball, Alex Bacic, has seen an impressive amount of basketball talent emerge from the organisation.
“Over the years we’ve had several players that come through the ranks that have represented Australia at a national level – either the Olympics or the world championships,” he said.
“We’re one of the original clubs who were involved in forming the NBL, and also one of the original clubs that were involved in the WNBL.”
“We’ve produced many athletes that would perform at that level, and currently we have two of our former youngsters, they’re playing for the Kings.”
“We have managed to develop a fair bit of talent here,” he said proudly.
The GM explained that the upcoming NSR trials were a cause for excitement.
“It’s really great that we can give our members an opportunity to play overseas and obviously get educated overseas,” he said.
“The opportunities that are here today, versus 15 years ago, have changed quite dramatically,” he explained.
“To think there is that opportunity to Australians to get a taste of the university culture in America, is something that you can’t really deny it!”
“If kids here have got the ambition, and the courage…then that’s something that we ought to do, because ultimately we’re here for the benefit of our members, and that’s not even basketball, but the educational as well. We are here to support them in any way that we can.”
What great support, Alex! All the best of luck to anyone participating in the upcoming trials!
