What are your suggestions re opening your child a bank account over there??
We recommend opening an account with a major US bank. Big banks include the Bank of America and Wells Fargo, these banks are nationwide. It is worth having a chat with the locals as sometimes the local banks can serve as cheaper banking alternatives (eg. low interest rates). We recommend picking a bank provider that offers an account with a no monthly fee
Are most dorms wifi, or should we get them a little dongle thing? – (I’m ready planning the budget lol)
A majority of dorms will have wifi or internet cable. If neither of which are provided you can rent a router from the library. You will not need to purchase a personal internet usage device.
How do they get to and from the airport if there travelling home/back?
For US pick up and drop off you must make sure that you liaise with coach and school. There will be no issue as long as you send your itinerary someone (whether it is a coach or a faculty member). If by, the smallest chance, there are no available staff to pick up or drop off, the school will suggest the best way to travel between the airport and campus.
If my child is really sick, who would look after them? How would we source a decent doctor??
It is required to have health insurance they will be required to see a GP if their health insurance doesn’t cover it, there are multiple health clinics available. Transport to and from the doctor is the school/coach’s obligation. They have a duty of care to all students on campus and therefore must always consider their general well-being.
Should we look into health insurance? Do we take out a separate individual health cover or should we check with our family provider?
