The American College Test also known as the ACT is a standardized test for high school students. The test measures a high school student’s readiness for college through four multiple-choice tests. These test are divided into English, mathematics, reading and scientific reasoning. The ACT’s are currently the number one test high school student’s use with 1.84 million students taking them in 2014. The total time the test takes is 3 hours and 25 minutes excluding breaks.
The format:
The exam is divided into four sections and each section is made up of multiple-choice questions. The students receive a subject test score that ranges from 1 to 36. Students also receive a composite score that is the average of all four tests. Students can also complete a fifth section in the exam that is writing and completely optional. If they do complete it they will receive a section score between 2-12. The English and writing scores will also be combined however the writing score does not affect the composite score.
