lost-luggage-Lost your bag? Don’t lose your mind!

For our athletes heading to college in the coming months and are looking to develop their knowledge of the travel experience prior to departure, we have a handy tip for you!

In the highly unlikely event that you jump onto a flight but your bag doesn’t make it, you may find that you arrive at your destination a few kilos lighter than the beginning of the trip. Should this happen, we have 2 tips for you:

  1. Don’t stress as your bag is never ‘lost’, it will simply jump onto the next flight to your destination.
  2. Head to the baggage claim office located near the baggage collection conveyer belt.

Once you check in your baggage in at Australia (or wherever you’re leaving) you will be issued your boarding pass with a baggage ticket stuck on the back. Your unique baggage ticket or sticker will enable any baggage claim in the world to track where your bags are at any time. Present this to the baggage claim workers, who will scan this and check out where your bag is and when it will arrive!

Upon receiving information on the whereabouts of your bag, the baggage claim worker will issue you with a form of to complete on where they need to deliver the bag to once it reaches your destination!! Delivery can take up to two days to arrive, depending on where your bag needs to be in order to catch up with you. In the mean time, the airline will provide you with a complimentary amenities kit including a t-shirt, toothbrush, toothpaste and other essentials that you can use. In addition, you will be allocated an amount of money to spend per day while your bag makes its way to you. The money will be reimbursed to you within 52 days after you send your expenses claim. This money should buy you clothing and additional creature comforts until you and your bag are reunited!

Losing your bag is an uncommon occurrence but can happen in the event of a long flight delay. Don’t stress over a delayed bag, it’s on its way!!
