Passion is a quintessential component to succeed in sport and life in general. Soccer athlete, Aaron Riccardi (NSW), tells of how his passion drives his success in soccer. Inspired by his sports orientated, soccer-loving family, Aaron began soccer at the age of 5. It wasn’t until he was between the ages of 12-13 that he realised that soccer became a career potential. Training twice a week with his local soccer club and twice with the Jim Fraser academy team, the Western Condals, Aaron plays between 5-6 days a week during soccer season.
NSR asked Aaron about a trying time he’s experienced whilst playing soccer. Having such a passion for soccer, Aaron explains how he takes every match personally. A loss can occasionally lead to feeling disheartened; however, with the support of both his parents and that of his coach, Aaron is able to maintain focus on his sporting goals.
Aaron’s passion and a love for soccer have been kept alive by his family and the success he has enjoyed when winning the soccer final with his high school team, describing the celebrations as ‘…absolutely mental…”
Aaron believes that it is essential to maintain an active lifestyle during the off season period. Partaking in Cricket during the off season, Aaron maintains adequate hand eye coordination to maintain his skill, which is absolutely essential, being goal keeper in both of his soccer teams. Remaining active is the secret to a sustainable fitness level year round. Aaron doesn’t believe in dieting, but goes by the phrase ‘everything in moderation’.
When questioned about what he is looking forward to the most about studying and living in the US, Aaron explains how he highly anticipates the sheer opportunity to play and study over there. An opportunity to immerse himself into college life, meet new people and make friends serves as an exciting potential for Aaron.
Aaron’s tips for those who are looking to take on a similar path to him; Aaron advises his family motto of ‘giving it 110% and to never give up’. Throughout the Riccardi interviews, it is evident that passion and persistence are both outstanding traits that both Monica and Aaron possess that sets them forward as a family headed for success.
